♥ Burlap {America} Wreath

Posted by Tracy Wellmann ~ May 25, 2015

I totally love all of the different patterns and colors burlap comes in now a days.  I was at Walmart recently and thrilled to spot these burlap rolls and ribbon in 4th of July pattern and colors.  (love!)

All opinions are all mine!

If you follow me on Instagram I posted a sneak peak on Sunday that showed you the painted banner. I’ll tell you how I created that down below.

I decided to make a few of these wreaths to sell at the Select Furnishings store this summer.  The burlap wreaths seem to be pretty popular amongst our customers. 🙂

Supplies

  • 12″ work wreath
  • burlap
  • star burlap
  • red striped burlap
  • red/blue striped ribbon
  • tan chenille stems
  • natural jute string
  • blue paint
  • white paint for america letters

1.  I created a basic burlap wreath by looping the burlap through the work wreath.

2.  I cut pieces of the blue star burlap and red striped burlap in about 4 inch strips.   Gather the burlap strip in a fan hold, pinching the center.  Attach to the burlap wreath with a chenille stem.  Alternate patterns to get the look you want.  I tied loops of jute string in different areas of the ribbon.  I like the whimsical look this gives.

3.  For the banner I took pieces of burlap scraps and cut a triangle out of cardstock for a pattern.  I then traced this triangle on the burlap and cut each piece out.  To prevent fraying of the burlap edges I put a layer of mod podge on the triangles and set aside to dry.  The mod podge gives the burlap pieces the stability it needs to prevent fraying and also accepts paint very well. 🙂

IMG_0400I hand painted the letters to spell out America on the burlap pieces.

I just hot glued them onto a piece of jute string and hung on the banner, using dobs of hot glue in different places to make the banner set the way I wanted it to.
