{Wire Basket} Gets a Make-over with Chalkboard Vinyl

T.G.I.F. Link Party #70 here.

Happy Saturday my CJToo friends — yes, Tracy’s had a blog update and pardon my dust as I continue to update links, buttons and make my blog a little more organized.  I’ll be back another day with more details….

Onto today’s project (squeal with delight)!

I love baskets especially if they are rustic or country looking.  I decorate my home with lots of little baskets, here and there and especially during the holiday seasons. Baskets, buckets, trays and tins fill my seasonal decor.

Baskets can also be very expensive so that’s why its great to buy them on sale or to use store coupons and to watch for markdowns on seasonal ones.  I found this wire basket at Joanne’s Craft Store awhile back — in the summer decor clearance aisle.  I totally fell in love with the wire design and shape but didn’t care for the chicken picture on the front.  At 70% off retail it was worth taking it home and providing a little makeover!.

My first thought was to paint over the chicken picture on the front with Chalkboard Paint but then I realized the picture wasn’t painted metal but actually a sticker. Yeah! I started to pull off the sticker but it was much more sticky in some areas ….which frustrated me a lot and I had to put a little elbow grease to get off. Grrr….I also had to pull out my Adhesive Remover by Duck — so worth it though!

Okay, once I got off the stupid sticker…. I planned to paint over the front with Martha Stewart Chalkboard Paint but the directions said it needed 2 coats, took too long to dry, yada, yada and I was running low on patience ….so….I pulled out my Chalkboard Vinyl that I ordered from Pick Your Plum awhile back and it was PERFECT-o!  I just cut the vinyl to the size I needed and my basket was immediately available for me to write on with chalk and finish my project.  Yay!  Happy Crafter!

Chalkboard Vinyl to the Rescue!  Yay!
I love these kinds of projects where I can make something different out of a funky decor item (no offense against chickens they are cute ….but I wanted a different look)!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on my basket re-vamp.  🙂
